Whether it is a talk in a lecture hall, a webinar or a results presentation in a video call: a good presentation sticks. Online, there is a second stage with its own rules. Camera, sound, lighting and background change how you come across, screen fatigue eats up attention, and closeness to the audience does not happen by itself.

In my training you practise both: confident presence in front of an audience and convincing presentations on camera. We work on your real presentations, with feedback on presence, voice and body language and with practical tools you can use straight away.

My knowledge comes from both worlds: from many training sessions with professionals, leaders, teachers and students, and from my research on online presentations at the University of Tübingen.

Typical situations

  • Attention in the video call fades after a few minutes.
  • On camera you lack the presence you have in the room.
  • Your slides are full, but the message does not land.
  • Technology fails at the crucial moment.
  • You want to create closeness online instead of delivering a monologue.
  • You present as an expert and want to come across as competent and approachable.

Topics

What we work on

  • Preparation & audience

Clarify your goal and key message, adapt the presentation to audience and format, build a storyline for in-person and online.

  • Body language, voice & eye contact

Use gestures, facial expressions and voice effectively. Online: eye contact through the camera, framing, posture.

  • Presentation design

From a PowerPoint upgrade to the whiteboard: choose media and methods that fit your goal and design them clearly.

  • Interaction & closeness

Activating elements instead of dull talks: questions, polls, breakout rooms and methods against screen fatigue.

  • Technology under control

Set up camera, light, sound and background properly. Use Zoom, OBS and hardware so that they strengthen your impact.

  • Calm under disruption

Technical glitches, interruptions, silence in the chat: recognise challenges and respond with composure.

Experience & background

In my doctoral research at the Center for Science Communication at the University of Tübingen, I study experimentally how the way presenters appear on camera – no camera, picture-in-picture or virtual background – affects credibility, cognitive load and knowledge transfer. These findings flow directly into my training.
